Realizing when it's better to cut off than this 'pushing and pulling' and maybe actually 'cutting down' - both of you.
Staying with something or someone out of fear of being alone or 'without purpose' is a rather destructive path.
It's a band aid, not a solution.
It's a 'pushing the problem before us' - and not unlikely hurting people on the way - including ourselves.

A life in denial isn't much of a life - it's survival.
